Has The White Lotus been renewed for season three?

Praise the TV gods – The White Lotus will return. The show's creator, writer and executive producer Mike White gave an official statement in 2022, saying: “There's no place I'd rather work than HBO and there's no people I'd rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner and their incredible team. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus.”

HBO also tweeted on 18 November: “I can’t wait to welcome you to the next White Lotus property. #TheWhiteLotus has been renewed for Season 3.”

A short teaser video sees waves crashing and wine sloshing behind the words: “Another vacation is in your future.” Eek.

Where will the next series of The White Lotus be set?

There's no hard facts, but creator Mike White has hinted that the next White Lotus resort will be in Asia in various interviews - and now Variety is convinced it's going to be set in Thailand.

“The White Lotus” is heading to Thailand, multiple sources close to the production told Variety.

The magazine is convinced that because the first two seasons were filmed at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy, season 3 could well take place at one of the luxury hotel giant’s four properties in Thailand (either Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui or the Golden Triangle.)

Whilst HBO declined to comment, creator Mike White recently told Deadline: “It’s hard to think about the next race… But if we did, I think it’d be fun to maybe go to a whole different continent. You know, we did Europe, and maybe Asia, something crazy like that, that would be fun.”

And in a YouTube clip from HBO entitled Unpacking S2 E7, he added: “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

What will season 3 of The White Lotus be about?

Unsurprisingly, things are being kept pretty schtum in that area, but Mike has talked before about a plotline that never came to fruition.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “I might still do it down the road maybe, if they give us a third season, so I don't know if I should say… Originally, it was more of like a Bilderberg conference, more about getting into some of the bigger power dynamics there. But Sicily was a totally different vibe than the idea I pitched. That didn't seem right.”

So, perhaps series 3 of The White Lotus will see a group of political leaders descend upon the hotel… interesting.

Who will be in the cast of The White Lotus season 3?

There's been no announcements, but obviously those who didn't survive the first two series presumably won't be appearing in series 3 (no spoilers here). Technically, any characters who featured in season 1 and 2 could reappear, just as Jennifer Coolidge did. Any guesses?

Whilst we sadly lost Tanya McQuoid (played by Jennifer Coolidge) when she fell off a yacht, hit her head on a dinghy, and died in season 2, one Hollywood actress is keen to play her sister in the upcoming season. Speaking to E!, Jennifer Aniston admitted she was ‘obsessed’ with the HBO show to which anchor Keltie Knight suggested she could play Tanya’s sister seeking vengeance for her death.

“Did you hear it, Mike White? I want Jennifer Coolidge,” replied Jennifer. "I love her."

The Friends actress also mentioned Mike White’s 2023 Golden Globes speech, in which he said that he had approached ‘many’ A-listers to star in the series but claimed they had turned down a role.

"Remember when Mike said at the Golden Globes, 'I know you all passed on it!'" she said. "I didn't! I didn't even get a call."
